Default IAC counts

What should the lowest IAC count I see be? (in park without A/C on). Right now I'm seeing about 15-20 as a low, and 160 as a high with A/C on and in gear.

I don't think you would want to get much lower than you are now. I see that you are maxed out with the AC on. It could be that your idle speed it too high. What is it commanded at? Its possible that it could be related to the AC. Like a bad bearing or something, but you would probably know it. I am only guessing, but if you have the stock TB and a 383, maybe you should "port" your IAC passages or go with a larger TB. I have a BBK 52 mm and it would whistle at idle. I mildly "ported the IAC passages and the whistle disappeared. I know that some results can be had, I don't know if it would be enough or if you have another problem. Good luck!

yeah, stock TB on my 383. Ran out of $ for my car pretty much, lol. Thanks for the advice. Idle is at 825 (to keep it from dying too easily). It doesn't jump to 160 in gear with the A/C on, it creaps up there if I sit at a light for a few minutes (but the engine never seems to run differently). I think I'll try unscrewing the throttle blade bolt a tiny bit and see if that helps a little.

thanks

you could also massage the hole for the IAC.. that will shift the counts a bit too

It's kinda like porting cylinder heads. You want to smooth out all the rough edges and take a little off the sharp edges. You can also make the hole that the plunger from the IAC sits in a little larger. It should be as close to round as possible though. If you look at the plunger you will see where it seats when it is closed. If you take it apart and look at it, you'll see what I mean. Take your time, and Good luck.

I keep my IAC between 25-35. Not real sure what it does with AC on......
