I just took the '86 out today after winter storage. It ran fine initially, but after I turned it off for about an hour, the SES light came on when I started it again. I checked the code and found a code 36, indicating the MAF burn off relay. I disconnected the relay, cleaned the contacts with electronic spray cleaner and reconnected the relay. The light stayed off.
The is exactly what happened last spring when I took it out of winter storage. Same problem, same solution. Do you think it is the relay or the connections? I have replaced the relay before.
One thing to watch for on '86s is that the MAF power and burnoff relays are different but have the same type of connector. It's easy to get the connectors plugged into the wrong relay. If you do that the engine will run OK but the burnoff function will not happen. The MAF wire will get dirty and then the engine will not run well.
You can tell the connectors apart because the burnoff relay has fewer wires (no wire in cavity D).
Vettoz:
I have FSM and did run the diagnostics as you suggested last year when this happened. Everything checked out normal.
My guess is that after sitting five months in storage, there might have been a little corrosion form on the connections.
At any rate, everything is OK now.
