Hi guys, this week i go with my C5 front caliper upgrade on my 85 (just waiting for wheels spacer).I'm not a fan of pedal bleeding my brake, you risk to damage o-rings inside MC if you go deeper with the pedal.I've searched on Ebay and found lot of different design of pump brake bleeders. The Motive Power bleeder apply positive pressure over MC reservoirs and push old fluid out while force new fluid from its pressurizzed tank.lot of video on you tube. The problem is what adapter to buy since we have double reservoir. They sell adapters for lots of different design, threaded caps ,rectangle cap with tie zip for early iron MC reservoir (old stuff).I don't understand if ,with your double reservoirs MC, we need a double cap that fit each reservoir at the same time, or a single cap that fit a single reservoir one at a time. Here some pics just to clarify,i need advice on wich adapter/kit to buy for my double reservoir MC,thanks guys
Not sure about the adapter to use. A reputable vendor should be able to point you in the right direction. That being said I absolutely love my Motive bleeder!!! Only thing I have done different that what you stated was I have not put the fluid INTO the motive tank. Was told by some guys I trust who do a lot of Hpde type races that putting the fluid into the tank would quickly break down the hoses on the tank. I instead filled the mc with fluid and then just kept an eye on the mc as I flushed the system. Refilled the mc as needed till system was fully flushed. Worked flawlessly! Good luck!
I don't think that brake fluid will ruin the supplied hose. But it's a good idea to clean everything after using the Motive system. The tank and pump is not air tight so moisture could enter and ruin the brake fluid.
Also, I would recommend installing a brass shut-off valve on the hose between the bleeder and the cap. That will help prevent fluid leaking out of the hose after you remove the cap. Install the valve so that its about 3-4 inches from the M/C cap. You can get the valve and fittings at Lowe's or Home Depot in the plumbing section of the store.
Where did you hear about possible damage to the M/C by using the pedal to bleed brakes? At our shop, all of our techs bleed brakes that way. The only time they use a pressure bleeder is when they fill a system like when entire lines are replaced. Gravity bleeding is another alternative.
Also, have you thought about using something like Speed Bleeders?? These are bleed screws that thread into the calipers and have a check ball held in place by a spring. Simply open the bleed screw about 1/2 turn and depress the brake pedal. When you release the pedal. the spring moves the ball to close the bleeder.
I have these on my '87 (with C5 front brakes) and I can bleed the brake system in about 10 minutes.
Thanks C4cruiser,never heard about speed bleeders, cool stuff. As for the pedal bleeding they say when you push the pedal the piston inside the MC travels into a rough zone where there's dirt and the bore is rough ,this affects the o-ring they worn out and you loose pressure. Here some pics
