That is supposed to be an EGR tube. It looks like someone may have replaced it with a plastic tube. I believe it's supposed to be metal. I think mine was set up differently on my 1985, so someone else with a later model L98 should confirm.

yeah...that's been "bubba'd a little bit....

That's the EGR tube. The thing MUST be intact....its GOT to be awfully LOUD and Dangerous WITH RED-HOT EXHAUST GASSES being blown on everything under the hood...AND with the cabin air intake close by ! Dangerous ! CO poisoning...

The different yr models all had this tube but they all had different types....some clamped on, others had a flange at both ends. IIRC 87 went to flange on top and clamp at the bottom. I had mine "upgraded" to flanges both ends because the clamps crimp ring tool was impossible to find.

Get any muffler shop to weld on the flanges or whatever they have, to fit a new EGR tube in place. ANY muffler shop will have the generic stuff to do this. Just a matter of tools more than anything.

IF you happen to have the 2 bolt flange on the top and bottom of the tube...you can replace it yourself,....IF you can find the tube. Again, a muff shop might be able to make it, order it or you can search FleaBay and/or the corvette catalog stores. Many of them sell the obscure parts.
DO get this fixed....its dangerous if nothing else.

That looks like an '86, based on the valve covers. That is the EGR tube.

I put header wrap on mine to insulate it. It now has the aluminum aftermarket heat shield on top of the header wrap:

There are plenty of people who have removed the EGR system so you should have no trouble getting a replacement.

It's an '85 or early '86 with iron heads.
You might try Vette2Vette for a used replacement EGR tube or maybe in C4 Parts.
