Default insulation wrap

Hi everyone,

On to my next project, thanks again for all the help with the stuck headlight.

The insulation wrap on the passenger side of the engine is in tatters. What can I use to replace it.

It is the wrap on a metal pipe that leads from what looks like the exhause to the intake? I think...

It is just forward of the transmission dipstick.

Thanks

Chris

Amazon.com (just copy paste bold description)

Product Details
BLACK High Temperature Header Exhaust Pipe Insulation Wrap Roll Black 1/8" X 1" X 50' - Thermal Zero
$16.95
Only 8 left in stock - order soon.

Use two small worm clamps..... one positioned at the top, then slowly wrap and push up the insulation for a smooth look.
Use the last clamp at the end. Measure the approx amount of insulation needed and cut from the roll.

That is the EGR tube that goes from the exhaust with hot exhaust gases to the intake.

The aftermarket EGR heat shields are junk. The heat destroys the Velcro and you get this:

The solution is to put header wrap on the EGR tube before putting on the heat shield:

Another hint: The aftermarket heat shields go on "backwards" and the seam shows. If you cut a new hole in the diagonally opposite corner then the seam does not show:

I put header rap on my tube but placed it length wise on top and bottom and stapled along the sides, I think it looks better than rapping it.

If you do go with the velcro wrap, use about 3 of the little metel straps ( they are actually metel zip ties) to secure the wrap at the top , bottom, and middle...This will keep it secure when the velcro fails...I used these on my starter insulation wrap...WW

They are cheap and this is what they look like.....

Well i just got the velcro wrap from Corvette Central....should i use it? Better to wrap it with the pipe off? Mine is off now, and it appears that i have to cut the wrap to fit correctly. is the header wrap readily available? that does look like a good idea. shoulda done a search on this before i bought a wrap.

I tried too save my tube to sell someday, but I ended up making a mess of it and the het wrap. It was in really good shape and I'm betting newer since they didn't have the intake side gasket on it.
