89 stock rods

rebuilding my 89 l98 motor and I had heard that the stock rods were forged? any input? thanks.

They are forged but the service manual doesn't mention the type of material. Hope you can read sideways.

All SBC rods were/are have been forged.

Starting in 1995 SBC's started getting the Powdered Metal (PM) fractured cap connecting rods.

You will find PM connecting rods in 1995-1997 LT1 and all 1996 LT4's.

Also they were used in the L31 Vortec engines and all ZZ4, ZZX and ZZ383 crate engines.

I have a copy of the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (MVMA) specification for the '84 Corvette (L83 engine). It shows the con rods are 1037 or 1038 steel, with a weight of .338 kg. (.855 lb) ea., but doesn't list the type of manufacturing. This, of course, may or may not be the same for your '89.
