That pic is a little "close" and blury to get a mental image but the main fan relay is located on the LH fender well below the brake MC.

On my '88 the coolant fan power wire is Blk/Red and the ground wire is Blk.

Stock there is no wire from the fan motor direct to a sensor ; power only comes from the mentioned relay
unless a PO has ired the main fan to run of the mech sensor used for the Aux fan

theres three wires coming from fan
blk/purple

the green is split one to relay and one to this plug
the fan runs when jumpered + blk/plp to power but does not engage at 220f

The stock fan only as 2 wires as shown above

What happens when you ground the sensor?

Sensor that location is the IAT sensor.
Any coolant sensors / switches fit in the heads

If you have a single fan there is no switch for the fan ; control is solely from the ECM which stock turns fan on at 228F

That's the low coolant sensor. It goes into the passenger side radiator tank:

The coolant temp sensor for the ECM is in the front of the intake base below the TB. There should be a Yel & a Blk wire.

To see if the ECM drivers can engage and hold the fan relay on, open the small connector in the A/C pressure line and start the engine; the main fan should come on and stay on.

I would be checking your temp gauge operation

Or jumper A-B at the ALDL connector and turn the key on.
Fan should run
