I have this peculiar grinding noise coming from somewhere the under carriage ever since I owned the car (about 6 months)
It can be heard EVERYTIME when moving the car at slow speed from a parked position and it only lasts 1 or 2 seconds at the most, whether warm or cold, whether forward or reverse.
something like trying to go into gear without pressing the clutch scenario, whats crazy is that this car has an AUTOMATIC tranny.
The noise would not be heard again untill the car is parked, engine off and pulling or backing up from standing still.
Does anyone here have an idea what could it be??
Car runs flawlessly otherwise.
Sounds like your ABS unit. I have a 92 also, and it did the exact same thing. I bought some shop manuals for it, and it actually says that when the car is first started and when you the car reachs approx. 4Mph the ABS flushes itself, and it says that this can sometimes be heard and or felt slightly if you have your foot on the break pedal at the same time. Mine did it for 5yrs. until just recently I completely flushed out my break fluid through all of my lines and flushed out my ABS unit and now I can't hear that noise anymore, of course my old fluid was in terrible shape, it had back burnt fuild in it, luckily I got it all flushed out. I would recommend checking your fluid, if it looks pretty dark in color, I would flush all your fluid out with new including your ABS unit. Hope this helps.
Not the ASR... it's the ABS pump. It's supposed to do that, after you start the car and start moving. On my '90 vette, it definitely sounded like a pump, but on my '93 it sounds more like a fart.
