my smog pump started SCREAMING the other day so I went and ordered a smog pump delete pulley from tpis. now, do I have to cap of the air injection system? does my 89 even have air injection? I didn't really look to deep into where else the smog pump leads. my cats are already deleted and the pipe to the cats is just dangling there so that I cant wait to tear out.
Cap the inlets to the valves on the AIR tubes on each exh manifold
or remove the valves completely and seal with a (1/2" NPT ? ) pipe cap on the thread
Without a proper seal will the air injection system leak and sound like an exhaust leak? Just out of curiosity, i did all this on my f150 and had alot of issues. I will begin the tear down as soon as i come home to that part on my doorstep!
took a better look at things today. I see exactly what everyone is talking about. I will probably leave the rails and cap them for now, but in the future I will cut the valves at the manifold and thread bolts in. since we are all pic who0res, pics of everything will be posted!
Get rid of all of it if you live where they don't inspect the car. It will make things look so much better' Or you could of just gutted the vanes in the pump and left it as is
The up side with getting rid of all the plumbing is plugs are sooooooooooooooooo much easier to get at. If you have not already done so do the TB by-pass while you are at it

To floridamale, Love your engine bay. Unfortunately I have to wait until 2023 (35 years from 1988) to do what you did. By then I will be too old to want to do it. But I'm happy with what I got:
1988 35th
130,000 miles
rebuilt 700R4
Top end engine rebuild
Total fuel system rebuild
Side exhaust (see pictures)
and finally a new Stereo System (no more Bose)
Next is new paint and leather and carpet
