87 steering wheel removal

Default 87 steering wheel removal

got the horn button off and the 2 screws for the tele handle. how does the retaining plate come off to get to the big nut holding the wheel on?

The retaining plate I think you're referring to (that the telescopic lever attaches to?) simply unscrews (IIRC). The you can get the "big nut". Keep in mind you will still need a puller to unseat the wheel off the splines.

I think you mean the lock washer thing I just popped mine off with a flat blade screwdriver

its a round looking plate that the 2 screws go thru to hold the tele lever

You got a picture if I remember right you use a phillips screwdiver in the center
