Default New 383 in 84 c4 immediately overheating HELP!

Any help and or suggestions would be appreciated. Fresh mild cam 383 rebuilt at Texas Motorsports using stock 84 engine. 1.5 roller rockers, ported intake, blocked off egr, new water pump, hoses, confirmed pump is spinning correctly, 8 degrees timing, fuel pump from a 85. Start engine and within about 5 min I have to shut it off. Engine at 230 hoses & rad at 100. Help

Sounds like a thermostat stuck closed or possibly air in the system.

It sounds like a air blockage, did you turn the heater on. How old is the rad and did you have any problems before the engine was rebuilt?

Did you leave the radiator cap off when starting to see if any fluid is circulating?

Sounds like some kind of blockage. I'm not familiar with the 84'sso excuse me if I'm off base here, have you been able to confirm coolant flow? Try bleeding the cooling system. I know on the L98 cars it helps to elevate the front of the car. Have you tried that? I would almost be willing to bet you have a air pocket at the temp sensor for dash.

These guys are on the right track. If your engine is really 230 (gauge actually working) and your radiator is at 100....you're not circulating coolant. If you removed the t-stat and had the same results, then either:
1. water pump isn't working or
2. you haven't filled the cooling system enough for the pump to circulate water.

Was the water pump correct for the vehicle, that is reverse rotation?

Removed the water pump & verified it is spinning correctly counterclockwise. I spoke with the engine builder and he said to put in the intake gaskets that do not have the rear ports blocked. the ones that are on it have the rearports blocked because it matche the originals.

number 2 represents the way the water pump is spinning

IDK what that^ means, but as I posted in your other thread, that pump should spin CCW as viewed from the front.

Is your lower radiator hose possibly collapsing or kinked shut when the engine is running?

To me, it looks like the water pump blade is designed to spin clockwise. The paddles are not pushing the water at all in the #2 direction...

It looks to me like you have a Standard Rotation water pump. You need a Reverse Rotation water pump...

.

Looking at it, as it sits in the photo, it needs to turn clockwise. However, in the photo, we're looking at the "back" of the water pump. Walk around to the "front" of the pump -the side you normally see and discuss pump rotation from- and that clockwise becomes COUNTER CLOCKWISE.

That is incorrect. It is spinning the right way. Water pumps are designed to pull water from the center and push it outwards. They are centrifugal pumps.

My bet is that there was/is air in the system.

here's a picture of how the intake gaskets are now. this is how it was when I took it apart. the engine builder is telling me to use gaskets that do not have the rear cooler ports blocked. what do you guys think?
