Hey all,

My car's been in the body shop for about 6weeks now. It has not been driven or anything during that time. While it was there, they must have left something on and the battery was stone cold dead. They charged it, and after a weekend of driving the power and all is back to normal.

Now... the last day or so, If my car is cold, I drive it somewhere and it runs great. I park it, say at the store, etc. and go in. When I come back out (the engine is warm by now) and leave, it accelerates funny.

i step on the gas in 1-3rd and in when i just normally accelerate the car jerks.. kind of like you are first learning to drive a stick. Now, if i just full out floor it, it is fine. I can rip through all the gears with no problem at all. If I level it off, say, leave it in 4th and just cruise... then whenever i lightly touch the gas to keep the car cruising, the car starts jerking really bad again.

Any help would be appreciated in solving this issue. I just spend $1400+ on it at the body shop and i have ZERO money to get it looked at or even fixed if there is something wrong that is beyond me or my roomates fixing.

I will be more than happy to answer any questions. I dont know much about engines as you all know, so I don't know what details to give initially.

this is on your 89? "check engine light" not blinking? any codes?

Just a wild guess, but maybe a vaccum leak. Did the body shop have your hood open? Maybe they knocked a connection loose.

Sound like an old carburetor accelerator pump or vacuum advance problem.

Check the hose to the fuel pressure regulator.

 

I think I know what you are talking bout. When your not hitting the gas, just cruisin down hill or something, then you go to hit the gas, not flooring it but enough to get the car to move. The car jerks for a second? I have the same problem now, I was told its the torque converter locking up early? Is your car an auto? If not then forget that suggestion. But also I heard it could be the fuel pump gone bad?

the hood was definately up, but i wouldn't know what to look at... its just "an engine with wires and hoses all over it" to me... yeah im that clueless... i can check the fluids and do some minor work, but that about it... where would a vaccum leak be? its an 89 so its fuel injected...

maybe something is wrong with something in the fuel perhaps? it had + week 1/2 tank of gas in it... it has all been run out by now and has new gas in it

and no, its not an auto... its a 6spd ZF...

my friend asked someone at his work that had a vette... he said he had something similar, and it was his read end.... i hope thats not it... if so i will have to park it for a while :(

 

Check your Catalytic Converter.. Mine did the same last year.. Cat was a brick (Car runs very rich). Replaced it, problems went away.
