I have a 84 that will not start. believe it has something to do with the antitheft devise. Any way to disarm or by past this thing. When you try to start car up, antitheft light on dash comes on and says armed.
Car sat for awhile outside without door handle on car.
Any advise will help. Thanks Rich
O.K. Hook up a fuel pressure gauge, a spark checking device, and have some one crank the starter while observing spark, fuel spray from injectors, and pressure. What is missing?
Maybe. Test. Last guy on here who WAG'ed that, spent $23 on a relay, the time to change it, for nothing. Then he replaced hi$ battery...for nothing. WAG'ing
Test.
This is easy. Do you have power at the starter motor? Lets start there...

on my 85, you have to lock/unlock the passenger door....just a shot..
He asked that because the anti theft system disables the starter. It seems the problem is there. The anti theft system is armed by locking the car and disarmed by unlocking the car. Sometimes the switch on the door lock goes bad. I have heard of the system not quite getting completely disarmed because the door lock was not returned to the vertical position.
You can test the anti theft system to see if it's functional by locking the door and then opening the door from the inside. The horn should honk when you do that. My car has power door locks and one time I had the window down and didn't want to find the keys in my pocket so I reached in through the window and hit the unlock button. The horn started honking, which I didn't expect.

Do other things work? The headlights, for example.

Right. But when you then put the correct key in the ignition and turn it on, that tells the car to disable the alarm...and the car will start.
OP said car cranks sometimes,, but not now. OP said nothing about alarms sounding (horn), as would be the case if the security system were active and mot recognizing keys etc.
Testing for power at the starter is a pretty basic/easy test.
