Default header question

I know long tubes are the way to go for hp but is there some gain on an lt1 with short tubes.

LT's added 10 hp throughout the rpm band in this test, shorties would be I guess about 1/2 that.

I would have expected a bigger gain with the long tubes. Most say 20 hp but i guess the dyno doesnt lie. kind of suprised the heads didnt add more in that test too. Seems like the real power is in the cam.

Maybe that's because the LT1 exhaust is already pretty free flowing with true duals and all.

The gains realized from any swap depend on the whole build. I recently had to swap my long tubes for the stock manifolds for a smog test. The power loss from stock manifolds was definitely more than 10 Hp.

I can say that I feel more than 10 horsepower after installing my ARH
1 3/4" headers on my LT4. I used race my old Camaro at the dragstrip in the 80's-90's and I can tell you that long tube headers give more than 10 HP!

I agree more than 10rwhp I'd say.
I made 289.2 with only long tubes and 1.6RR's and tune
About 45rwhp more than stock
Basing on a 15% drive train loss

This is not co$t effective. The LTH cost plus labor for only 10 horses???? Something got to be wrong here unless that was a main line dyno

Was this a L98 or LT1?

There are old threads here stating better HP gains wit LTH..

We have a dyno now in-house here at ARH, I'd like to do a before/after with a C4 here.

I'll see if there is any dyno from past installations.

id also like to see some real world testing on a set of short tubes. It would be cool to see a shootout testing both compared to stock on a lt1

Damn thats not a lot when you grab a calculator, and compare cost with effectiveness.

New headers, new hardware, new catalysts converters, to modify existing exhaust or to buy a new one, a tune, and labor co$ts unless you DIY.
