Default Hypertech chip - YES or NO ???

I've seen Hypertech chip in Ecklers catalogue for $189.
This doesn't seem very much but I was wondering is it really worth
20 HP as they are saying.
If somebody have any experience with it please let me know if
You were satisfied or not.
I also saw thet there are Stage I and Stage II chip.
Is only diference between stages in fan turning on temp?

Thanks!

I picked up a used Stage on e-bay for $50 and no gain.

Since you have a SD system, you will benefit from a good chip after some air flow mods, like heads and cam and maybe even after extensive exhaust work.

Hypertech... NO, all it does is turn your fans on earlier
a custom burn after you change something like heads/cam/intake...YES

The hypertech turns your fans on sooner and adds a ton of timing to the car.

No! I did not notice any difference, just a lighter wallet.

I put a Hypertech stage II in my 92 LT1, and like they say, no difference. It does turn on the fans earlier, but I've put a swith in on my 86 and 87 for $5 that worked just as good.

I purchased an Ed Wright fastchip and have noticed quite a difference. Just ask my wife! :yesnod: Not only did it turn the fans on sooner alllowing a 160 degree stat, it also opened up my rpm band between shifts! :D

It's not that I spend more time between shifts. I can shift like I always have done. It's just that I can take it to higher speeds before redline, which would benefit if you drag race. I would imagine anyway. Plus Ed Wright guarantee's a min. of 12 more HP. I think it's worth it!
