On that big auction site I see a Cardone brand with part number 77-7727 and re-man GM's part number 88999195. They are close in price, (GM being a little more$). Any one with experience with either or would recommend one over the other?
(I have done a search in the forums and get hundreds of listings that have nothing to do with replacing ECM's. Maybe I don't know how to properly use the search feature.)

Hi
You can get rebuilt ECM's just remember to take the removable chips from your ecm.
There's a ton on ebay if you type 1227727. So cheap you can buy 2. These came in many cars. Just keep your memcal.
I believe for this particular ECM I like the used because they're so plentiful and generally considered reliable. I'd shop local first keeping in mind what $$ they can be purchased for. You do need to remove and use your PROM. Most of these ECM's are in W-bodied GM cars and the PROM is of no value to you. If you found one from a Corvette with a PROM and it were reasonable it would be a plus. The PROM even if not correct could be redone in any tune you'd maybe care for.
