I called Bilstein this morning. It appears that the stock OEM Bilsteins do not have the same valveing that the B6 has. By replacing with the B6 HD there should be an improvement in handling according to the Bilstein rep I spoke with. Please post the driveability results with the new shocks. I am considering the B8's even though my car is a base model non Z51.
The front shocks are easy, I just opened the hood and changed them. The rear were easy also but I have a lift and air tools, on the ground with a jack would probably suck.
Capn you were very prophetic about the rears....I'm just gonna take it and have it done somewhere. I wasn't comfortable crawling underneath with jackstands to get leverage needed to break the nuts loose. And I hurt today just from what I did yesterday. Not used to much manual labor. The fronts went okay once I found out how to keep the shaft from spinning while tightening. Took it for a short drive this morning and there is a very noticeable improvement with just front shock replacement. Will get the backs done this week.
I see a lot of complaints about Monroe shocks. Have any of those people actually had a car with the Monroe shocks or are you basing your opinion on the shock price?
Saw these posts and thought I'd chime in. I replaced the original shocks on the vette with the monroe sensa's. I have been running these since nov. 2011. I replaced the original sotck shocks due to the horrible ride. I am assumong they were shot. The monroes allowed me to drink a coke in the car and with the messed up roads here I could enjoy the car. The only dislike I have is in the handling. These shocks stink. Car handles like a midsize but we are able to take a vacation run without bleeding kidneys.
Hoped this helped. If you are wanting a softer ride these will do. If you want a vette that handles like a vette, I'd prolly go for Bilensteins.
