Default Car went dead in traffic.

My vette has been sitting for about 3 years before I bought it. Took it out today put some fresh fuel in and booted it around. All seemed fine for a an hour or so then boom car shut down in the middle of an intersection. After multiple cranks I got it to restart only for it to fall on its face again. After several more times of getting it to start and moving 20 feet at a time I got it out of traffic.

After it cooled down I was able to get it to restart and run only to completely shut down 2 mins later. I checked all injectors and they are all good. Pump seems ok and looks to have been changed. After looking over everything and checking for spark all seems good. Then I noticed the SES light was not coming on at all.

After letting it sit for 30mins I came back out and the SES light was back on and it would fire up only to run really rough and stall, again SES light was gone.

I am thinking faulty ECM? I have also been told this could be ignition control module?

the ses light will come on at when the key is turn to running and the engine is not running or if there is diag troubles.I would check for codes then I would get a fuel pressure gauge and rule out fuel. one thing you have going for you is the car is acxting up when it is doing this it is the prime time to find the problem

That's the problem, the SES isnt even coming on when you turn the key. I haven't ruled out fuel pump yet, but I always thought these older ones just quit when they are done.

What year is the car?

Hard to say without knowing this. But the fact that it set for three years means there is going to be some work neccessary to get it running as it should. Any idea of why it wasn't driven for three years or the history of the car?

10 people have looked at your profile in an attempt to find out what year your car is, so folks are willing to help you out. How about helping us out and fill out your profile, including your "signature"

Thanks

Sorry guys its an 86. The guy I bought it off of bought it with the intent on driving it. Instead it sat parked and he became too fat to get in and out of it (no joke intended). The previous owner took good care of it, KYB all around, MSD wires, expensive spark plugs, etc. Thats the low down on the car, it is also low mileage.

I now own 3 L98 ECMs for no reason other then backups. As it turns out I got lazy last week fixing a fusable link after baking in the sun working on the brakes. I used a butt connector that was 2 sizes too large for the ECM wire to the batt. It wiggled loose and caused all of this mess. All from fatigue/lazyness after working on this thing all day in the sun.
