"goes out" is not very specific. Does the tach stop working? Does it go dark?
If it goes dark then that is a back light issue.
If it stops working then the connections between the two PC boards in the dash might have problems. The tach filter could be bad. The pink elastomer connections between the PC board and the LCD might be dirty.

As Cliff said is it one part of the dash that goes dark or the whole lot?
The right side is the tach display, does the speedo still illuminate?
The connector between the two boards in the display can go bad, below is a listing for that part.
