Re: Remove "frisbee", what does that mean? (2001 Z06)
Later model L98's had a round flat disk bolted to the water pump pulley. A balance weight to smooth things out due to a new and better A/C compressor. Some will remove it for quicker engine response.
Re: Remove "frisbee", what does that mean? (2001 Z06)
Aah you C5 guys have the good life no "frisbee", good exhaust systems, and the like.
The General put an inertial mass onto the L98 water pump pulley in '88 when they changed A/C compressor and brackets. It was supposed to dampen out vibration when the A/C compressor cut in/out. The result was that it took away the 10hp the D-port heads brought and realy had no benefit.
For about a year I tryed to get info on the beast; finally, last fall at Carlisle PA, Gordon Killebrew gave me the real scoop.
So removing that "frisbee" (pic on my site) is truely a free 10hp mod for these L98s.

Actually I owned a 87 vette. My brother got the 2001 Z06 (lucky bastard). We are just using the same name to post. Thanks for the info., so my 87 does not have the frisbee thingy?
Re: Remove "frisbee", what does that mean? (2001 Z06)
No frisbee's on the 87's. It would have been bolted on the front of the water pump pulley, where normally you would see a engine driven fan. You can't miss it, if you have one on your Vette.
