I will assume it is a 44 carrier. Most of them I have seen that cracked were due to bolts being displaced and wedging between the ring and the carrier. Never seen one just crack for now reason.
Best bet is to find a used replacement, generally ranging from $1000-1400. Some have found cheaper, just luck.

I just broke a spider in a D-44 this month and a chunk was caught between the case and ring gear. Punched a hole in the bottom of the case, but it's not in a stressed area so it should weld up fine.

In either case, d44 or d36, you'll need to pull the rear end out. I'd see if your friendly welder could repair the crack, depends on how bad it is. If it's too much to fix, the guy with the d36 carrier for $75.00 + is a good deal. :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:
