Need some help with Overdrive unit
Hi, since I had the transmission out, I figured it would be a good time to change the gasket on the over drive unit that was leaking. I took off the from cover on the overdrive unit, the one with the metal shaft that goes into the manual transmission. When I took it off, there was a lot of tension. After further examination, there is a drum in the center, about 6-8 inches in diameter that came forward. I tried to push it back in with my fingers and tapped it with a rubber mallet but it wouldn't go back in. I tried to draw it in with the bolts but the bolts got tight too quick so I backed off to prevent damaging anything. I read on All Data to screw some special GM bolts through the back of the casing after removing the vehicle speed sensor and removing the pipe plugs. I found some matching threads to those bolts and used a bunch of washers and was able to draw the drum almost all the way in. I had about 1/16" left before it was full seated. I tried to put the front cover back on, and finish seating it by screwing in the cover bolts but they got way to tight and I didn't want to snap the cover. The bolts in the back would not draw it in any further even when I added more washers.
Any ideas?
