Default A/C questions

Okay I have a 92 C4, no a/c I went to connect my gauges and they do not screw on the fittings. My gauges are sorta old , I was told newer cars have different fittings, I bought adapters and still the gauges do not connect to the dryer fitting. Is there something I should know. Also maybe theres a away to just add Freon without the gauges. I have 2 cans of leftover R12 . If all else fails what are the options for changing to R134.

Are you using r12 gauges and the car was previously converted to 134?

It sure sounds like you're headed for trouble! Have you read the a/c information label in your engine compartment? You SURE don't want to put R-12 refigerant in a R-134 system!!! Get professional help for your a/c problem!!!

If its been converted to 134 should it have quick connect fittings? Because these are screw on's. And there is no label under the hood stating it was converted.

An R12 system has threaded fittings as so should the gauges used. The 134 system uses a snap on type on connector. The gauges and fittings are vastly different between the two systems.

Are your fittings on the car screw on. Are the connectors on the gauges screw on also?

It would be hard to change to 134 and not use the 134 fittings to charge the system since.

If it has been converted over to 134a the High/Low pressure fittings should be Quick connect..

Both fittings are definitely threaded. Now I just went out to look at it again and it seems that the fitting on the accumulator has the plastic cap marked M12 on it, so I checked with my metric taps and dies and it sure enough is a 12 mm fitting, so ????? Any ideas anyone
