OK I pulled out the bulbs from the instrument panel and went to the auto parts store. Is there a different holder for 194 bulbs?? The old bulbs have heavy straight wires and 194s have small ones bent around the glass base. Or is my dash not from an 86??
The 194's will replace the bulbs in the information center. The bulbs behind the speedometer and tachometer are 882's I believe. You can find them at Napa, and O'reily autostores, or at least I did for my '88 model.
Don't remember the number, but don't go to dealer, they are about $20 there. They are halogen bulbs so have the same cautions as fog lights and such. I got mine at O'Reilly's
I was going by the info on the cluster troubleshooting page that said to replace them with 194s but I am probably mistaken , I went to O-Reillys and got em. Almost 8 bucks a piece!! Can't anything be cheap.
the 882's have straight stiff leads that plug into the OEM sockets, The 194's pictured above will not fit the existing OEM socket ( i read the same article as you about replacing the 882's with 194's) The sockets are differant, so i bought the 1/2" sockets ( for the 194's) These unfortunatly will not fit correctly into the PCB ( the lock point rotates the contacts on the sockets past the contacts on the PCB, so i got the 5/8" sockets which will line up correctly, but are too big to fit the opening... solution... a small rounded finish file, a little judicious filing on the PCB... and poof, a neat, tight 194 conversion for $8.00 total ( all 4 bulbs and sockets ) Have not really noticed any differance in the light ( 194's are not as bright as the 882's ). And they run much cooler and at 1.99 per pair at any Auto parts store... cheap. BTW the entire "Adjustment" took about 1 - 2 hours.
Now if i could just find a source for some blue acrylic sheets, i would also change the dash color.
