Coolant system issues?
1988 automatic with 60,000 miles
My coolant level sensor has been coming on and off intermittently & randomly.
Car does not overheat (although I think it runs a bit hotter than it should).
Every time I check the level in the radiator (when cold) or the overflow tank (hot & cold), it appears to be full.
I had the coolant system power flushed out last year (by Goodyear); installed new radiator cap, and overflow tank cap and I believe I had them do a pressure hold check.
I also noticed that the coolant level in the overflow tank never seems to change. It's my understanding that it should go down when the engine is hot (vacuum drawing it into the engine) and back up when the engine cools.
I never see any drips or puddles under the car in my garage and I don’t think I am losing any coolant.
I have taken the level sensor out and cleaned the end and the wiring appears to be intact.
So is it possible I have a crack in my coolant overflow tank or the hose going to the radiator? When I checked it looks fine.
Doesn’t the overflow tank have to be properly sealed to develop a vacuum?
