I use Permatex 81878 Ultra-Copper Hi Temp silicone. Little bead around the port and bolt it up metal to metal. I do this on EVERYTHING.

Never buy header gaskets again.

Dart aluminum heads, round port, whatever cheap paper gaskets I can find, Melrose headers. Since Melrose headers have a machined flat flange with no weld bead, I have considered doing what rklessdriver suggests. The main thing to remember about header gaskets is to be sure and do at least 3 warm up cycles, re-tightening the bolts each time, then you can forget them.

I've had good luck with the Percy aluminum ones on some hard to seal headers and reused them many times and even on different heads/headers on another car. Still I think they changed the design some and both my sets were older type. One of the sets just cracked on me and that set was on/off my c3 many times. I just only noticed while shopping for a new set your suppose to annealed alum or copper gaskets before reuse. I've used copper rtv and stock gaskets a few times too. Had the paper type blow out on me. Don't like the metal felpro ones unless the surfaces are real good. Herd if the head and header are perfectly flat you can use nothing, I know some stock vehicle came that way. A truck I bought was like that and the engine was even a rebuild. I'm still surprised it didn't leak, I had to put the manifold back on with gaskets for my comfort.

I bought some new types to try, but haven't got around to it. A high temp fuzzy coated set, this one that has inserts and is suppose to seal almost anything. Sometimes I see a part and just want to try it, so I'll pick it up.

1404 on the afr195's and if the ports are large but there is one very thin area by one of the bolt holes on this one. On smaller ports I go to the 1444

in some instances like if you are running a 1 5/8 tube on the 195 afr then just use the 1444 to get the extra gasket surface. doesnt matter the 1 5/8 tube header bead is smaller anyway
