I vote for the AutoXRay if you don't want to go with a laptop and some of the other tools.
I have TunerCat, Diacom and a couple of the AutoXray units.
The AutoXRay is pretty flexible and V-E-R-Y easy to use.
It allows you to monitor sensor data and ECU data in real time.
You can record all your ECM data and play it back later.
It will allow you to reset the check engine light.
The cost is not to outrageous.
With the PC link you CAN download your recorded data to your PC and view it.
It will fir easily under your seat so you can take it with you on road trips so if you have any problems you can diagnose quickly.
Most updates are free and if there is a big change in the software/firmware for the unit it's pretty reasonably priced.
It is a completely self contained unit and as I said before, has a easy learning curve.
It will take a "snapshot" of all the engine parameters and you can recall the data later for study.
I like TunerCat and Diacom BUT I like the AutoXRay too.
I liked it well enough to purchase a second one. (I don't leave home without it).
ttt
I'm sort of honing in on the Autotap based on functionality and price.
Does it allow you to change fan turn temperatures, adjust for gear/tire changes, etc.?
Can you save mutiple data sets and then load any that you want using this tool?
AutoXray does do OBD I and II. YOu need to purchase a seperate cable, unless yo buy the kit, and then it will come with both cables. Make sure you get the PC Link.. That will allow you to upgrade your unit on line.
I really like mine. I will also purchase a program for the laptop when I decide what to get. I want to be able to modify the program in my car. I think having themboth is a plus, youcan easily scan and watch without dragging out the computer.
Ease rocks!!! Best software laptop obd integration i've seen in a long time. Visually friendly and easy to upgrade when the time comes. Only thing that sucks is if you have two vettes and have odb1 and 2 then you have to buy both the packages...........but most of us only have one vette so.............make sure you find Mike Meek to order (which I did) and you can receive 10% off the list price. If you buy both packages it will take like 15% off. It was well worth the money. I run it on a Sony Vaio 1 Ghz machine with a serial connection. It's awesome. Peace ;)
