hey all. i am going to replace my rears on my 93. i have cooper 285/40zr/17's now. i have been quoted 320 per tire with everything included to get eagles put on. my question is can i go 275's on the same rim to save money and how much will i really save. all the tire places were closing right when i decided to call so im stuck wondering what would have been right now until friday. lol any input would be greatly appreciated. and is it a big deal to not match the front and rears. the fronts are coopers and 2 people i called cant get em. tx to all.

I would recommend Nexen N3000 tires, they are dirt cheap ($140 each) and they grip like glue. I highly recommend them they are vibration free and fairly quiet
My 85 has the 275 40 17 all round on 17x9.5 wheels.

How old are your "fronts"? Which model of the Cooper? It appears Cooper no longer does the 285 in either of their "performance" tires so depending on age and your desire to stay with the stagger of the '93 as equipped you've got limited choices. The 285 and the 275 were both mounted on the same 9.5" wheel so fit isn't actually an issue.
It's strictly a personal choice at this point.
Age of the fronts might be the determining factor.
How old means date codes from the tire. Four digit code on side wall (XXXX) First 2 week of manufacture and the second 2 the year.
I'm inclined to think that for most users the GY Eagle at $320 are "overkill". The use of your car might influence a choice or maybe with "deep pockets" it's maybe not an issue.

i will look into the age of the fronts although they are fairly newer looking with alot of tread. i did the rears today with bfgoodrich g-force kdw's. 275/40/17s. they were 380. installed. not bad. and they look awesome!
If I was paying $300 a tire for the C4, you can damn sure bet there wouldn't be Goodyears going on the car. Heck, I wouldn't pay $150 a tire for Goodyears.
My '92 has a 275 square setup all the way around, and I'm quite fond of it. I dunno why they changed to a staggered setup for '93, but the square setup works really well IMO.

when i do the fronts, i am going to square it up. question: can i fit the 275's which are on the rear now on the 8.5" rim? the bfgoodrich kdw's look nasty on thing. i love them. 196. each installed!
