Default Buying an optispark

I looked up the optispark for a '94 vette on gmpartsdirect.com and it returned part #1104032 for $277.16 shipped. Is this the right part? I thought they were over $300 for just the part? What else will I need to buy to make this repair?

My car has 41k on it, and has started to skip at low rpm under load :mad so I think it's time for a new opti...unless anyone else can tell me what else might be the problem...

Thanks...

That's the way mine acted when the opti went bad. I also understand that the 94-96 opti costs less than 92-93.

That sounds like the newer style opti price. But it not thats a good price.

Also you may want to check you plugs/plug wires first. If you have a timing light you can hook it to each wire one at a time and watch for eratic flashes.
This is how I fixed a miss in my car once when the dealer couldn't even find it! It was a wire burnt down by the boot. Changed it and ran great. I too thought it was the opti then but mine ended up lasting to 72k. Also
check your coil wire they can rub on the water pump sometimes and cause
a miss.

Goodluck!

Actually its 95-96 on the vettes and f-body, I believe the Impala changed sometime in 94 to the newer one.

92-94 vettes are the same.

If the miss is very regular then it's probably not the opti. Do Plugs and wires first.

The opti for a 94 is #10457702. This is a complete unit.

I just bought one from Sam Smith (Las Vegas - 800-395-1440) $270.00 + $4.50 shipping to CA.

Be sure to get the waterpump gaskets as well. You'll need some Hi-Temp RTV to reseal the Opti (seals are one of the weak points).

the miss is somewhat regular...i noticed that it really occurs often when the engine is very hot, like in traffic the oil will get as high as ~225 and it will start missing at low rpms, below about 2k...

i will check out the wires and plugs this weekend, and also try to get a look at the opti if i can get to it...

Sounds like it's acting a bit like mine. Mine is very intermittent and the hotter the engine compartment gets the more it misses. At idle it will jump 500 rpm every 5-10 seconds.

If it's missing on the highway and I mash the gas, after an initial stutter it will take off and run smooth for a couple of minutes.

Mine has been getting worse. 6 weeks ago we noticed the odd idle.

Just got the new opti yesterday, next Monday the car goes under the knife!

What would I need to upgrade my car to the new style opti? Just a timing chain cover or more? I can get an opti from a '95 for cheap so I want to know what else i would have to buy (part numbers if you know them)

thanks

One other thing on the conversion. The connector to the PCM is different, but it is a simple change. One solution was to cut the new connector and solder the old connector. Another solution was to push the pins out of both connectors to remove the plug, then push the new pins into the old connector. Just make sure the wires match.

I think that's what the harness above is for. Grant it is not the cheapest way to do it, but probably the easiest.

A word to the wise....Change Your Water Pump At The Same Time You Do An Opti Change. The cost of a new GM water pump from Jeff is $155.00 - I have one from Jeff on my car right now, it went on this past Friday. The reason I so strongly advise changing the pump at the same time is that I only have 25,000 miles on my car and when the original pump was removed it was shot. Nearly half of the bearings were gone. The pump gave me NO indication that it was about to crap out on me - no noise, no overheating issues, nothing. Save yourself a big headache...change your water pump as well, before it leaks all over your brand new Opti.
