Default 1994 6-speed lower shift boot

Has anyone else had trouble installing the lower rubber shift boot on the left side that goes up under the console? There is a little flap that hangs down that makes it nearly impossible to install. I have it on there pretty decent, I don't hear any odd sounds or road noise, but I know its not seated perfectly on the left side. Anyone else experience this? Not sure if I should take the console plate off and have another go at trying to get it 100% perfect. It is perfectly sealed the whole way around except for by that little flap.

This is what I am talking about

YES...I have all parts removed so I can get it installed correctly and sealed....because doing it 'almost 100%' is pointless.

Which other parts did you remove other than the center console plate?? The side plate that goes under the carpet?

Just took it apart and got it seated correctly without removing anything else. I put it in with the flap facing upward. Then once the boot was seated used a flat blade screw driver to seat the flap downward.

where did you find a new boot? I've been looking awhile with no luck.

how difficult and how long did it take to replace?

I'm not very handy on this sort of thing but am learning to be a little more brave and patient on minor repairs.
