You can buy rebuilt alternators at just about any auto parts store. Just make sure you get one that matches exactly what you already have. I bought one at O'Reilly's and it had the wrong pulley on it. Maybe it was put in the wrong box or something. One other thing to look out for is to have it tested in the store before you take it home. I had one that was bad out of the box.

Many people recommend having it rebuilt locally. That's assuming you can find somebody in your area that does this.

I have fixed an alternator by replacing the voltage regulator, so doing it yourself is also an option. The main things that go bad are the diode trio and the regulator. Sometimes a bearing will go bad. I've never experienced that so I don't have any advice in that case.

If you have the original OE/GM alternator presently I'd certainly consider the repair of what you have vs. the off the shelf from the AP store. There are numerous tutorials for repair of the CS144 out there. If it's an off the shelf reman already ................

You mentioned it's only been a couple of days so you might consider having the electrical 'system' evaluated 'on the car'. Make sure it's an alternator issue?
