This?

Or this?

Without the dust shield & mounts:

Okay, just sharing some of the things I've found on my '96 base coupe project. In addition to discovering all 4 ball joint and both tie rod end nuts were all loose. Amazing I'm still alive.

The rear suspension links now have poly bushings. New Bilstein shocks all around. Ball joints and tie rod ends torqued to FSM specs.

The car had just under 124k miles on it when I got it in January, now about to turn over 127k. I also pulled the tranny pan when I had it up in the air last weekend, not sure but may have been the factory fill fluid (gasket was thin, hard, cracked, stuck to the pan and case). Early jobs were water pump and alternator replacement (within the first 100 miles), at which time I also did plugs & wires. Had to have a new pipe made for the left muffler (appears to have been backed into something, crimping and cracking the pipe). Intake manifold gaskets a couple of months ago.

Still more to go. Like replacing all weather stripping. Fixing seat cushion seam stitching (which will probably require replacing the leather covers). Fixing a hole in the belly pan behind the driver's seat (looks like a jacking "incident"). And the park brakes (missing something in the cable system).

Then we can start making it look nice.

In the meantime, we'll just keep having fun (cut a perfect light with it in June).

Nah you were good for another 100k. When I redid my rear bushings my strut rod bushing looked like this

I'm going to have to take a closer look at mine. They didn't stand out as being that bad, but I didn't look at them that closely. The link kind of shouted at me (that was the right upper - the rest weren't that bad, but for sure distressed). The throttle steer has been reduced significantly, but is still there slightly, meaning more stuff is probably worn out.

All in all, still rides and handles better than my '82 Camaro...

Reminds me of the time I flew into some city and got a Z28 camero rental....
I got no more than 5 miles away, just on the freeway from the airport and turned around and went back. The car felt broken...it bounced and rolled everywhere. Felt scary unstable ! Scared me to drive it on the freeway. Felt mushy and weird. Hated it !

Went to the rental desk and complained to the clerk at the car rental place and they had a mechanic come take it around the block to see what the problem was....I was prepared to take a minivan or whatever else they had....THAT Camero, even being a Z28 scared me to death.

They come back and say its fine! its only got 1237 miles on it, long way from being worn out yet !

Then they ask what I normally drive....I tell them.

The guy hands me the keys back and says...." none of 'em are going to feel "right" after driving a Corvette.... Have a nice day, Sir!"
