Default Another cylinder head question

Pardon me if these are dumb questions, but what are the factory valve guides made of on the aluminum D-port L98 heads? Powerded metal and pressed in? How long (ballpark, of course) do they generally last before they need reconditioning, and what's the preferred method? And about how much would it cost if I were to pull the heads and take them to a machine shop?

Thanks,
Jason

I think they are bronz, measure runout to test for excessive wear, the preferred repair is to have new guides pressed in and sized, it shouldn't cost much to have new guides pressed in.

they aren't bronze, mine are some type of steel, hard SOB's, 100k miles and no signs of wear. i'm doing a total engine rebuild and not even changing the guides. there's seriously no play at ALL in them, things look new. guess mobil 1 or redline for the life of a engine does wonders.
