Default What cap did summit send me?

I ordered a hypertech cap/rotor kit from summit and it doesnt look it will ever fit. It has these hook things on the cap instead of screws. I fitted it on and tried getting the hooks under the distributor and it just doesnt seem right. I also turned the distributor in the process so now i have to time it whenever i sort this out.

The D.U.I. distributor that I have has the notches that the hooks slide into, and it doesn't use bolts. I'm not sure if the original distributor has to provisions for them, but if there isn't an area machined out for it, then it it's not the right one.

That is the "regular" style HEI cap used through 84. All the TPI cars (AFAIK) use the cap with the 4 screws instead.

Factory Distributor on my 89 is screws.

I had the same problem.

The hook units won't fit.

If the part numbers on the box match the invoice then they sent you what you ordered. If they don't match the invoice then they sent you the wrong parts. Did you order the correct parts? If the order invoice and the box match then likely not. The fact that they're wrong is irrelevant at this point. It's all about what was ordered and what was shipped!

What part number did you order?

What year Vette & what P/N did you order??

The HyperTech cap on my '88 had the 4 screw holes just like the OEM cap.

No worries.

Clamp the "L" portion of the spring loaded fastener in a vise & hacksaw the tang off. Remove the remaining portion of the fastener & spring from the cap. X4.
Use the original Vette hex head fasteners to install the new cap.

I don't know that the hardware is long enough from the OE cap. I'd think NOT. You're mentioning that you feel the OE screw will drop through the taller provision of the cap? just askin'!

If it would drop through then I'd think maybe bolt cutters to cut the latched hardware. I don't have an old style GM cap to check but it sounds like it should have promise for the OP.

Why do all that work and still not have the right cap? I would call them and find out what the problem is/was and get the right cap coming in the mail!!

Vettes and Cadilacs had screws. Most others had the clamps.

Summit sent the same thing to me, and then argued when I told them it was wrong,
I told them to change their description saying it fits the L98 TPI, and they obviously didnt !

They very well may have taken your advice and added the NOTE to the correct one but the one you and the OP received along with others doesn't have the note added:

DOES NOT FIT TUNED PORT INJECTION

When you look at their applications and see "choices" of two it requires certainly more thought. The note isn't real obvious but if you insist on Internet shopping it's what you need to understand and confirm applications from more buy than a single source and "clicking" the BUY BUTTON.

I understand your need to the Internet shopping but for others there's more argument reasons why not to.

Any auto parts store will have the correct cap with the screws, no need to order from Summit.

thats right, I dont have a lot of choice, usually have to buy most of what can i can from one source due to shipping price,
having said that Summit are usually pretty good 99% of the time.

The only correct high performance (as in has brass terminals) cap I found from Summit was from Taylor.
It was the only one with screws, all the others had hooks.
One commenter said he cut the hooks off and replaced them with screws and it worked okay.
I went with The Taylor.

If the next one shows up with hooks I'll be pretty bent
