Hi guys. I'm using AFR 195 Eliminator #1040 heads on an 85 Corvette. I just recently aquired a set of Hooker Longtube 1 3/4" headers, and I was wondering which gasket would be the best for these. I believe these are the #2149 model. If you could post a link to the gasket too that would be great. Thanks
I have always used exhaust gaskets from NAPA called "NITRO"
They are NOT on their computer usually, unless your counter person knows what book to find them in, you will will be told no such thing. Turns out, there is, they are so good they are called reusable. I have taken a cutting torch to one and wiped it off and looked like new. Also ... yes, I have reused these on my race and show cars to the point I have not had to replace yet. OFF and ON my 69 CUDA at least 6 or 7 times over for repair or rebuilds over the 35 years, I have had this same set since 1984, (almost 30 of those years) Last engine rebuild 2008, got new Hookers, compared header gaskets, and used my old ones.... Not making that up. Have them on every one of my cars, but haven't bought a set in a few years, last ones where for my 95 TA LT1.
... And why are blocking that square port exhaust flow with oval port headers?
Because no matter what I buy, it turns out to be the wrong part. And that's what pisses me off too. Because these things are advertised as 1 3/4" yet only 1 side of it is 1 3/4". Didn't notice the Oval until after I got them. But I have heard good things about those particular set of headers. I was planning on using a dremel tool to even out the welds that protrude to the inside of the runner but I'm not so sure if I should do that now. Anyways thanks for the recommendations everyone. I didn't realize AFR had a recommendation so I went with the Fel-Pro 1404. Thanks.
I've run 1 3/4 Hooker Super Competition headers in the passed. I dressed up the welds In the inside where the flange and tubes meet quite a bit. They do block the edges and corners of the ports.
