Any trick to removing carpeted knee bolster on drivers side? The FSM shows some drawing but not very helpful. Just wondered if anyone has done this. I have a 93. Thanks Dave

I believe there's two fasteners on the end of the dash, three I believe across the bottom left to right, you'll need to unplug the foot-well light and there's two fasteners in the ALDL connector. That will put the trim in your hand. It will be very obvious, the FSM image should be enough to guide you. Once the trim is removed depending on your "mission" you may need to remove the actual metal knee bolster.
Keep in mind that you may need to use your finger tips to "feel" the screw locations, as the fuzzy surface can conceal the heads. Start with the two on the side that the front of the door panel closes against.

. OK got carpet part loose and I see metal bolster. I'm looking for wires coming from key cylinder I need to check for a break. Maybe I need a different approach? I think I have Vats issue. Dave

You can likely put your hands on the connector without removing the metal barrier but removal might be helpful. Unplug the connector and you can use a DMM to check the key resistance at the connector. You can NOT see the wires all the way up the column to visually inspect. You need to rely on meter/instruments.

Got back into the FSM and now i see the 2 pictures one of the carpet and the other the metal. Dave
Ok got her running. I was able to get the correct resistor to my key and when i found the wires coming down from the key i disconnected the the small black connector and checked with meter when i had key in ignition. I guess the break is up close to cylinder. I jumped the 2 wires on engine side with the resistor that was wired into a 6 inch wire. Hooked up battery and turned key...nothing at first but i heard a very small click. This noise was coming from a relay 2nd from left directly in front of me. Left side under knee bolster. I tapped relay and it started. I replaced that relay with new one and all is well. Looking at FSM didnt show exactly what relay it was. Starter enable or fuel injector? It has 2 connectors 1 with 2 wire the other with 3 wires going into this black plastic relay. I copied #s on old and was able to get new from Amazon. Standard makes it. I still want to fix wire break and will do when i fix the play in steering wheel( its on my list) Thanks all for the help hardest part was getting to it! Dave
