Default 1991 Corvette A/C question

The usual thing happens the ac blows warm. I go to check it and the low side R-134 adapter is leaking. I scan a few threads and figure out the car has a diagnostic code of 09. Bolted on a new adapter hardly anything came out of the port. Quickly bolted the new one on and tried to slap a charge in it. Unbolted the battery to clear the code. Added guages and the low side is reading zero psig and the high side is around 75 psig. Obviously that is low. I have the low side switch jumped out to make it drag the refrigerant in. When I shut the car off pressure bleeds off and both sides settle in at about 74psig. What gives why am I not seeing pressure on the low side at all when the compressor is turning? Anyone have any ideas how much this thing should take till the low side starts to show anything?

How did you determine the leak was at the low pressure service valve?

Most likely all the refrigerant leaked out.

You need to pull a vacuum to remove any air that may have been pulled into the system due to the leaking service valve.

I actually got it to work , yes I agree I should have pulled a vacuum , the leak I could literally watch come out, then when the pressure got high enough the damn thing began to leak out of the high side, the schrader was still in so I replaced that side also. It's working better than it was before. I had to figure out on the forum how to clear the code and jump out the low side. If it gives me any more fits I will do it right and pull a good vaccum on it, I have a micron gauge and am curious how low a vehicle can get. I also have ntg so if it leaks on me again I will do a full makeover on it. Low side pressure stayed around 35 psi high side goes from 220-250 and it blows really cold. I wish there was a good charging chart does anyone know where I should measure my superheat on these things LOL
