cat replacement
I am replacing the cat on an 84. The after market cat does not have a heat shield on top. Also, had to remove the exhaust manifolds to replace the studs. A few people have told me that i dont need to use gaskets when installing. Any suggestions or feedback? Thanks

I use exhaust gaskets at the cylinder head myself. Exhaust leaks at the head are not good in regards to how the engine can run correctly due to an exhaust leak at the head.
I do use gaskets at the catalytic converter...where the flat surfaces meet. I make my own out of a sheet if I can not find them at NAPA or some place like that.
