Hey everyone. Well, I started my 1996 Coupe this morning to take my son to school and noticed my idle seemed kind of high 1000 rpm s. The car ran well, just high idle when stopped. I figured the idle was high because the car was cold and the idle did drop back to normal 800 rpms after about 20 minutes. I'm not sure if it's related but I also noticed that when I tapped the gas pedal to move forward a little in rush hour traffic, the car would stumble as if I had my headlights on and the electricity wasn't enough. The car never died but did this for about 20 minutes also. Then at about 30 minutes of driving, the check engine light goes on. When I restarted my car after dropping my son off, the car ran normal again. No more high idle, no stumbling, just the check engine light on. Left my car at a friends and he called and left a message that his scanner said" Idle Air Control High Rpm-P0507". Does the IAC needs to be replaced or should I hunt down some of the vacuum lines related to the AIR system? Thanks in advance, Ed.

Follow the flow chart of diagnostics for this code in the Factory Service manual. Simple as that.
I do this for a living and I ASSUME NOTHING...that is why the Factory Service manual library that I have is worth more than I paid for the manuals. I have found MANY TIMES that nothing is wrong with a part...but the electrical connector is bad and does not have a good 'drag' value when removed out of a connector and manually inserted into the part.
Your friend may know how to interpret the data on the scanner which may aid in directing him to a problem....BUT...I would spend the time and perform the flow chart diagnostics...and that may require doing a preliminary diagnostics first...which many people do not do and can come back and BITE YOU...because you assumed all was fine.
