My 10 years old water pump is starting to leak. This is an Edelbrock unit. Not wild about electric pumps so what is the suggestion to get? I already have a DeWitt radiation to cool the 500 he brute so what brand is recommended? Back to Edelbrock or is there is a high performance unit that works better? TIA.
I sit here with a mfg that I KNOW to be a good pump and cannot remember the damn name....it just wore out a few mouths ago after a good 10 yrs or more of service on this car..
I had an edlebrock before that on an different car and was happy there. There was a store brand hi-performance cast impeller that I tried and was pure JUNK...failed in a few months.
All of the cast impeller type that I've used were ok. They moved more water at idle than the stock pump could at freeway speeds, so that tells ya a lot about the differences.

I'm terrified of the cheap junk that will screw up the motor so if Edelbrock is the best, I won't mind getting another. But if there is something new that works best, I'd look at it too.

If you're happy with what you have and it's only started to seep, rebuild yours. the quality of nearly all vendors has suffered in the past few several years. Is the leak maybe just the rear cover? There are "specialty" vendors who offer quality bearings, seals and parts OR offer the service. How expensive? You need to make some calls maybe. A DIY? Depends I guess on talent and equipment available.
I used a FLOW-KOOL on my built ZZ4 and was very happy with it. My son was recently have some cooling issues and thought it might be the pump. He pulled the back off the pump and told he is was perfect and the impeller and fins were stainless.

Edelbrock is about $193 from Jegs. FlowKooler is about 115. Not sure how much a good rebuild kit is worth. Not sure why Edelbrock is that much more. I don't know which flows better.

If you buy "premium bearing/seal" from a known vendor, you know what you've got likely. A new E-brock or whosever who knows where the damned thing is actually sourced from. There's some quality rebuilders and some also sell the parts direct also. It might be worth a conversation with one.
Aklim,
You may want to check with Edelbrock... Last time I talked to an Edelbrock Tech Rep a few years ago I believe he said they will rebuild the unit for you for a resonable price..Something like $75.00- $80.00, if I'm remembering right........WW
Here's a post I just found where the guy checked with Edelbrock directly....
Post::
I just got off the phone with Edelbrock tech. I can ship the water pump back to them with a check for 75 bucks and they'll re-manufacture it and send it back, freight back included in the 75 bucks.. I think I'll send it back and end up keeping it for a spare..
They wouldn't sell me any parts to do it myself. Actually, for the $75 it's not worth messing with it anyway

I'll check with them. If they have a good turn around time, I might do it since I really don't want to buy tools to do that job if I will never use it again for another 10 years.
Is it a higher flow unit? I do get it running pretty hot with the AC on in stop and go traffic.
Not the Murray. Mine runs nice and warm as well until the fan kicks on. My AC doesn't work. The GNB has a high flow but I would suggest to go with what you feel good with. If the Edil lasted 10 years then that's what I would go with.
