I need a replacement SIR coil assembly for my '96; anyone happen to know part number or source?
Not going to go into details as to why I need a replacement....let me borrow the pharse from The Wizard Of OZ and say..."if only I had a brain."
I have been searching the internet but have yet to find a part number or a replacement.
Assistance appreciated....and if you happen to have some IQ points not doing anything....could you send them my way........
Part number should be on your old one. I would expect to see 26041005 and that's a good service number also. Did you only ruin the connector at the top or at the base of the column OR have you actually ruined the coil aspect of it. There are replacement connectors. I may have a correct coil but I can't look until tomorrow.
I need the entire coil or clockspring assembly; I managed to break something internally as the spring will not wind-up any more.
And yes I did get the part number off of it....had not noticed it until I saw a picture of one.
Need part number 26036296.
I would have thought that by '96 you would have found the number I mentioned but the number you found was used in many GM applications in the '94 - '98 production so any local salvage yard if they treat you well could help from many older salvage pieces. You just need to confirm the connector type on the ends I'd guess.
Got one from a salvage yard, have not checked continunity yet, but will before I install it of course.
From looking at the connector for the clock spring at the bottom on the steering column, appears in order to get the replacement one through the steering column I will need to pull the turn signal and multi-function wires up along with a pull wire and then pull all of these plus the clock spring wires down the column all at the same time.
Gee....what fun ahead!
Thought I would update and close this thread:
No need to pull all the wires, the clock spring wire and connector will go down the column once the plastic wire tray is removed.
There should be a plug-in at the coil assembly, no need to pull the column wire. On my 92 I just had to pull the cover for the bag and plug in new coil. You will need to clock and preload the new coil, should be around two turns, can't remember clockwise or counter clockwise. Do you have a service manual?
There is a small connector at the coil, however after many attempts to get it off I gave up. Also the service manual does not show this small connector as being able to be disconnected.
It did not take much effort to get the wire/connector down the steering column.
Have centered the replacement clock spring per the instructions in the service manual...very easy to do.
However have additional problems and will be opening a new thread.
