Hi all, my LT1 had a front engine seal leak so I took the whole thing apart. I changed everything while in there, new gears timing chain, new cover gskt, oil pan gskt, optispark , water pump seal, distrib seal, and main shaft seal. After all that I have a major oil leak. redid the whole procedure and still leaks. Took to my local vet shop and they put a die in the oil and said it was the optispark seal. tore down again and added a o ring . Well it still leaks. Any ideas? could the new shaft of the opti be slightly smaller in dia, Bad seal, ( is brand new) . Really want to move on with this project but stalled with this oil leak? HELP
What year LT1? The seal design is different for different years. For the nonvented units, verify that the coupling shaft is smooth and that the seal is riding on the machined surface.
It's pretty rare to have issues with the optispark oil seal. Are you sure it isn't the water pump seal? You need a special tool to get that one in properly. If it isn't in properly, it will make a good mess in just a few hundred miles.
