Default C4 front mount with a Lenco

Hi. I thought i should make a update of my turbo build on my -85. As some of you know i previously ran a rear mount BW SX475 turbo and blew the gearbox to pieces! After spending days/nights searching for a reliable high torque/HP transmission to go with i decided to front mount the turbo as well.

Got some exhaust flanges watercut at work and began building the turbo headers, i choose thick wall steel instead of SS to reduce risk of cracking and warping. The headers are separated from the 2-1 3" turbo flange pipe via v-band clamps, to ease the installation/removal.

Finally i got my hands on a Lenco CS3 5-speed on a dragracing buy/sell here in Sweden. Problem was to fit it to the Corvette bellhousing and make place for the air shift cylinders. I made a adapter plate out of aluminium 1,1" thick.

The Lenco had a Chrysler 18 spline input shaft wich i had to modify in the lathe to make it fit the chevy crank bushing. I also had to adjust the lenght a bit to have enought free play as Lencos recommendation, and i had to replace the clutch disc hubs to 18 spline Chrysler as well, a new input shaft from Lenco is pretty expensive so this was cheaper

In order to make the final adjustment on the turboinstall i needed to align the engine properly to both fit the lenco and make room for the tubing under the hood.

Yesterday i cut the tunnel out to fit the lenco and the air cylinders. I had to cut pretty deep under the dash to fit the no.2 gear cylinder. The idea is to install all the tubing and make a aluminium cover. I also need to make some brackets for the powerwindow buttons and for the driver seat as well. So i have som work to do on the interior.

Me and a friend has built a paddle shift system for the transmission using 250PSI reduced from a C02 bottle. More pictures of this later on.

Next step is to cut the C-beam and fix the Lenco to the rear axle, i also need to cut the driveshaft to make it fit the 7,9" longer transmission.

Feel free to comment.

you might upgrade to a custom scatter shield bell housing and be able to bolt up the lenco

I had a modified lakewood bell housing that I redrilled to use a mopar hemi 833 joe liberty pro shifted 4 spd in an old BB chevy trans am I build back in the day

it worked very well and man that tranny was strong

the lenco is a superior unit, amazed at the guys to use it

great build on the turbo system, very impressive

Thank you for the comments! I am overseas at work this week but will continue the build when i get home. The hard part could be to modify the c-beam to connect the Lenco to the rear. But i will post more information/pictures as i go.

I really like what you are doing, very nice work! What's the displacement of the motor? I'm just wondering because 3" pipe seems a little big, it may slow exhuast gas velocity into the turbo. You definatly have some cool stuff going on in your garage.

Can you snap a good pic of your serpentine belt set up for me? I am doing a turbo project as well and that looks like I would be better than what I was thinking of doing.

What did you buy for turbo piping? Did you just get a bunch of bends or did you order them individually? I bought a box of bends from a header manufacturer. They were cheap.

Yes! I went to the local plumbing store and bought the bends and straight pipes there. The total cost for both headers was about $100.

Yes maybe you're right. I honestly have not calculated any perfect size on the pipes, i just took what was available in the garage LOL.
The engine is a 355ci with 9.0:1 in compression.

Thank you

Yes, i was thinking of adding a kevlar blanket over the bell housing just in case of a clutch/flywheel failure. But i hope i won´t have any problems down there

Turbocvette- Here you go.

I use the old ac bracket and on the other side i have a idler wheel about 3" diameter with a home made bracket. Maybe not the best solution but i have ran with this setup for years and it works.

I post a quick drawing of how the belt is routed.

Edit: i forgot to draw the waterpump LOL sorry

Do you know what you used for the primary tubes? Schedule and ID Mine is just 1 5/8 header pipe. 16 guage I think. I was thinking the ceramic coating would help it last. What is the black coating on your headers/pipes? Thanks Anti.
