Greetings
Thank you in advance.....
Why does my 88 vette' 4+3 only start up in reverse gear?
I must put it into reverse, push in clutch only then will it turn over.
Does anyone know why or what to do to fix this problem.
It has to be in reverse to get the key out and the clutch has to be depressed to start it. It should start in any gear as long as the clutch is depressed.

Thanks for your reply, but I tried that and still wont start in any gear, it must be placed into reverse.
Real strange....
Thank you again...
Makes no sense....the clutch safety switch is what is allowing the power to the starter (when depressed)...NOT the shifter. It should also start in NEUTRAL with the clutch pedal down. You should not need to be in reverse to crank it up. UNLESS someone got in there and did some custom wiring...which is something that I know I could do if requested to make it crank like that...and more of a theft deterrent...because most people may not know that it would have to be in reverse...but that is also kinda useless...because it has to be in reverse to take the key out..
Nothing like disabling safety switches. I have one in my shop that would make you sick due to NOT having a safety switch....which needless to write...I was paid to install a double safety switch. Foot MUST be on the brake and the sifter in PARK...in order to allow the starter to engage.
