Default secondary EGR Valve?

Its located near the passenger side firewall and right now I have a bolt in the hole of the manifold. Looks like a wire is snipped on top and I believe that there should be a tube from there to the manifold. Something with the emission system. It is almost directly under the distributor. Anyone know how to upload pictures to this form? I wanna know if its a secondary egr and if no such thing what could it be?

There is no such thing.

Sounds like maybe the oil pressure sending unit? Picture would definitely help.

Upload your photo to photobucket. Post the link to that photo here.

Must be a l98, and it is part of the exhaust emissions. Don't know what its function is, but i think it has something to do with the exhaust temperature sensor. Anyone know for sure?

That is where a metal flex tube with a shiny heat resistant cover bolts to the manifold. The other end goes to a tube on the exhaust manifold. That sensor has a single black wire that goes into the wiring harness, you may find it in there if you want to hook everything back up.

I AGREE 100%

The switch that has the broken wire is your EGR temperature diagnostic switch. When they are in the condition like what yours is in...it more than likely will throw up a trouble code. Just connecting the wire to it may not stop a trouble code if you have one currently. The switch would have to be replaced.

The missing wire tells the ECM that the EGR system is working. It will set error code 32 if it does not see that temperature switch close. Usually you will get a Service Engine Soon light after cruising a while at around 50 MPH or so. It takes about 5 minutes to set the error. The SES light will be out when the engine is restarted. It's possible that a previous owner had that error code removed from the ECM.

The EGR tube should look like this:

You're gonna need it to pass the sniff test too !
The EGR manages the Nox vs HC emissions...your Nox will be too high without the EGR to keep it down with a taste of exhaust gas to cool the combustion. That's the purpose of the higher speed test they do....at higher rpm they can 'see' what they are looking for.

you need the metal tube that runs from exhaust manifold to the intake, by the distributer, and you need to get that switch reconnected. A muffler shop might be able to get that tube...

The EGR tube should look like this:

dyaln7891, What you are holding does not look like a wire...looks more like a vacuum hose.

Getting the pipe to connect to your intake will be quire fun to say the least. The later design tubes use a flat surface so the tube can be bolted to this flat flange with a gasket between them. Getting a used tube may work...but then again may not due to placement and valve cover height.

Its a wire I just replaced it. There was a needle like thing and thread so I unscrewed and spiced wires together. Yeah I'm looking all over the interweb and can't find anything only pictures. And yeah this guy figured he could cut it and would be an easy fix/cheap when he had it but that isn't the case.
