Just got the torque converter in the mail today and could not wait to slip it on. Well when it is fully seated spun 100 times plus lol it wobbles left right up and down. I really don't think this is normal because I just installed one on a th350 that is tight. Also I notice the splines on the converter have 3 bigger splines and the shaft on the trans does not. Did this company send the wrong converter? Or did I order the wrong converter? Here is a link it says 84 1/2 and up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251577218749?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITThe vette is an 85. Also on the drivers side of the transmission I see a wire harness plug but it has nothing going to it? Got the car as a project as some of you have seen in the forced induction section.
Any help would be great!

Are you aware that running a non lock up converter in a lock up trans will require pump modifications?
Google it up.
The converter wobble is snout to bushing clearance, multiplied by the diameter of the converter.
Compare the old to new snouts to verify correct sizing.
When the pump is out, replace the pump bushing. I like the teflon coated.
Red locktite, and stake it in the notches on the back side.

I asked this guy if it would work on my trans with no problems and he said yes?? I cant measure the old one because I don't have it. I tried to slick my caliper in there to take a measurement but its just not possible to get a accurate reading. I am waiting for his reply but idk I really thinks its the wrong converter? says in the advertisement 84 1/2 and up my vette is a 85 so likely built in 84 so maybe I need the earlier one?
The very early 700r4s had 27 splined output shafts and after 84ish gm changed to 33 splines. (I might be off a spline or two). Make sure you have the correct number of splines and that the converter is fully seated into the trans. The converter will have some wobble until it is bolted onto the flexplate.

I gave you the best info I could. You could diagnose, or guess what the problem is.
I prefer to diagnose, but moving forward, it's your call.
Good luck, and I hope it works out.
Both spline configurations were used in actual '84 Corvette builds. If it's an original Corvette build there should be a Julian Date identifier on the transmission pan rail.
The Julian Date format would be 84 XXX with XXX being the day of the tear 1 - 365 or whatever. The later builds would I believe have 84 107 or greater and there would also be a T following the transmission model number on the pan rail. That doesn't "confirm" it, it could be a build using just the original case and the internals could be a matched set of either style.
Your '85 one would think is the later build but again who knows that the trans is actually original. Everything needs confirmed.
I have confirmed the it is the correct converter. A friend of mine stated that the bushing behind the seal could have somehow got locked or stuck on the original converter but my reply was wouldn't the seal come off with it? Or do you guys think the bushing has slipped pass the seal? Also made a stop at the local trans shop today and the had a fresh th350 with the converter on it that also had the same play but nowhere near as bad. I will know more tomorrow when I change the seal. But sill any help I can get it just don't seem correct. I will see if I can post a video tomorrow if I can figure it out. Trans is a 30 spline.
