No ill effects.
When people say "no ill effects", I always question how they know that. When I switched to synthetic oil on the Powerstroke, I sent it off at 7500 miles and had it tested and while I noticed no ill effects, Blackstone told me the oil was worn out and change at 5000.

There we go. Now someone is "thinking". Only wany to KNOW is oil sample analysis. I agree w/others who posted that today's oils are better than good enough, and most any brand name oil from a company that cares about it's brand equity, the oil is good enough. But oil samples will show you how good, and when you should be doing your changes.

The Oil Life Monitor in the C4 is operating under the assumption that the recommended oil is in there. If you're going to change, it's a good idea to sample and see if the drain intervals "jibe" w/the OLM's notification.

The oil life monitor is just a SWAG to be ignored. I reset it because it annoys me. IIRC, Mercedes has a sensor that checks resistance which is better. Nothing beats oil analysis if you want to see what is in the oil and how good it is and how long you can stretch the oil change interval.
