Default 95 LT1 Exhaust manifold source?

Hi All

Has anyone had to replace your LT1 exhaust manifold? Where did you buy a stock replacement one from? I have looked around and it almost seems I may have to buy it from the dealership. I really do not want to install headers and would like to stay with the oem manifolds.

I would think there would be many that have these on a shelf because they did headers. I wouldn't be afraid of a used manifold. You might need to be concerned maybe with having to use a "spreader" to get the bolts to cylinder head started but that's pretty easily overcome.

I might consider a Wanted To Buy in the parts section. You might want to be sure and match the manifold casting information. A manifold from a '96 would require the use of a gasket/seal to fit the manifold to the convertor and properly seal it. '95 I believe still just had the ball seal with no gasket/seal.

I have a '96 and I just pulled and reinstalled the passenger side converter. There was no gasket seal between the converter and exhaust flange. I don't know about the drivers side as I did not remove it. It appeared to be just a ball seal.

If the seal/gasket didn't fall out or if you didn't make an effort to remove it you would never have known. I believe that all '96 production had the seal/gasket.

I did a search through the FSM (I have it on CD) and there was not mention of a exhaust seal in any section dealing with removal or replacement of the exhaust manifold. Though I was able to find a listing for a gasket seal for 1996 on Rockauto, it was also listed for 1995, 1994, 1993 and 1992 as well. It's a Fel Pro part 61258. Maybe it is a part for earlier years as well. I'll keep trying to get an undestanding of where it goes as I like to know what I am dealing with.

PS I forget to add I removed the passenger manifold as I had to drill out a broken flange stud and replaced the other 2 studs also. I don't remember seeing anything like the seal shown on Rockauto while working on it. But it could be there as I also wasn't looking for it.
