I was doing a tune up on my 84 Vette, 80,000 miles. I swapped in the new dizzy cap & rotor, Accel brand. Everything started and ran fine, but I had a horrible noise in the radio. I put the original cap back on and radio is fine. Is Accel a bad brand or is there a better brand? I haven't done plugs yet, any recommendations?
Same coil both times. That does make me think about the coil spring conductor. I'm wondering if there might be some issue there. I'll swap them back out tomorrow and see.
Just seems weird. I've done this so many times and this issue is a first for me.
Yes, the strap was there. When I swap the caps tomorrow, I'll check the connection between the coil and the spring/brush to the rotor. I'm overlooking something. The car runs fine with the troublesome cap, it just creates a lot of radio noise.

I know it a PITA because I just had mine apart... but can you put the original parts back on to see if you still get the RFI?
FWIW - I've used accel caps and rotors on my 85 for at years, recently on my 90, and never ANY noise issues. can't see why an 84 would be any different - ????
