Here is the symptom...And this is only when the motor is hot (220+).
Under WOT between the 1-2 shift the car starts to cuttout. It's kind of a sputter heard through the exhaust. I have installed new plugs, wires, fuel filter, and Opti. It never acts up when the motor is cold, cool, or just warm...just when it's real hot. Also, when I punch it from a roll, say 20, when the motor is hot like this it will also cuttout (pretty badly too) until it shifts to second, then it just takes off. I know air temp effects performance, it has been in the upper 90's here, but what would cause these symptoms during hot days?
It never does this between 2-3 or 3-4 shifts. I need to attempt to fix this since I'm planning on going with a 100 shot soon.
You may be hitting the rev limiter before the 1-2 shift. on my 92 this happens at 5800 or 5850 rpm. If that is the case you may want to adjust your shift points.
This is something I had thought about...but why would heat be a factor in this? I would think that if this was the case it would do this at each 1-2 shift under WOT.
Your rev limiter doesn't change with temp. You may want to check for a fuel pressure drop under the conditions you spoke of. Maybe a loose fuel pump pickup tube.
When my car is cool it shifts fine also, but then after the first run at the track it takes longer to shift and hits the rev. limiter. I figure it just takes a little longer to shift when the tranny is hot. I have been told you need to pull the tranny to adjust the governor on the 700 R 4, and that B&M makes a kit for this purpose, to raise or lower shift points. If you have a 4L60E tranny, you can program your ecm for different shift points.
Slow to shift, that makes sense. On a 700R4 the governor is on the driver's side under the round cover in the tail housing. You wouldn't have to pull the tranny.
